How Do I Burn Belly Fat?

Burning belly fat is something that many people struggle with. I often get people going to all sorts of lengths with their diet and exercise programs that are simply not necessary for them to get results. In fact, many of the things people do can be detrimental to their results. These things are so common, it's almost like 'common gym knowledge' to end up doing the wrong exercises, not getting results and ending up with injuries.

I'll be blunt with you for the rest of the article just to spare you the BS.

My Exercise Program

Each week, I do at least 3 sessions of moderate to high intensity general cardiovascular exercise for my health, fitness, stamina and to help keep my body fat % down.

I will perform strength training sessions for my upper and lower body at least once per week, but mostly twice. Each time I exercise, I will ensure that I am only doing effective, muscle-fatiguing strength exercises. I will also make sure that I perform at least one of my 3 general cardiovascular sessions as an abs workout/cardio session.

My Diet

I don't eat a lot of crap. Basically, if you really want to know how I burn belly fat, I eat pretty good food. I don't focus much on counting calories because I believe that a healthy, raw-foods diet is the best way to eat.

I do have treats now and then and because my metabolism is in such good shape, I can afford to have treats here and there without it effecting my body fat percentage at all.

My Supplementation Program

Although I believe that eating raw, whole foods as close to their natural source as possible. I am also aware that many of our soils have been over-farmed which has resulted in a massive drop in mineral contents within (even organic) foods. I take a natural, organically derived, colloidal mineral supplement as well as a good quality multivitamin, fish oils, spirulina and antioxidants. Can you lose weight by walking? The answer is a definite yes. Walking is the best form of exercise for just about everyone. Even if you have never exercised in years you can easily go walking and use up some of those excess calories. Try to work a lot of walking into your daily routine. Walk to work or get off the bus a few blocks from work and walk the rest of the way. Walk to the corner store instead of driving. Walk your kids to school instead of taking the car. Don't use elevators. Walk up the stairs instead--it is great exercise. Your no starvation diet will give you lots of energy and walking will burn off more calories.

You also must be on a a good weight loss diet. You can only walk off limited calories and if your intake is higher daily than you use up in your daily life, including walking, you will not lose weight.

You should gradually increase the distance you walk every day. You should also pick up your pace and walk a bit faster for at least some of the time.

It is absolutely best to have a complete diet/exercise program which you can stay on for the long term. Walking is a very important part of it.

Here are 4 healthy snacks for weight loss. Look, I'm going to skip over your meals for now and focus on snacks because a lot of the damage you do to your weight loss efforts happens between meals. You get hungry and you're forced into eating some type of convenient junk food just to settle down your stomach. Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss

1. String cheese

I like this choice because of it's protein. Plus, it does a good job of tiding over my hunger. Even though it's small, it kinda fills me up. It doesn't have a lot of calories either. It's worth considering for you. I eat at least 1 of these a day... usually.

2. Beef Jerky

This has a bit more calories, so be careful. But other than that, it's a good protein source as well. Take a few pieces and get to work chewing on them. They're tough... so it will require some effort.

3. Low calorie yogurts

I get the 33 cent ones from Wal-Mart that have only 80 calories in them. This is working out good. Again, another good protein source snacks. Although these have aspartame (not good) and a higher carb content, the protein helps to minimize any blood sugar spikes. So you're alright here.

4. Apples

Probably the best snack of all. You get 5 grams of fiber and a lot of nutrition. Obviously they fill you up. That has to do with the high water content... as well as the fiber. Eat 2 of these a day... but shoot for 3.

1. Bodyweight squats with a jump

Ok, do this... do a bodyweight squat in your home and as you're squatting upwards, launch yourself. Jump up. Do these as fast as you can. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps and adjust according to how your body is reacting. This movement is great for weight loss because it gets the whole body involved. The fast pace makes it even more of a weight loss exercise.

You can do these 3 times a week.

2. Fake jumping rope

You don't even need a jump rope for this. Just do little mini-jumps of 1-2 inches and mimic the hand movements as if you're really using a jump rope. This takes the coordination factor out of this great exercise. Do this for 1 minute at a time... for a total of 5 minutes a day. You can do these 4 days a week.

3. Jumping jacks

This gets the whole body, it's simple, and it's totally uncomplicated for everyone. I'm going to give you more options with what you can do here. You can do these for 1-3 minutes at a time and you can do them for 10-20 minutes a day. You figure out how to fit that in. It's not hard. I use tv commercials to get my workouts completed everyday.

If I was to choose, I'd either do the first or third way... probably the 3rd way. Why? First, you need to use bananas as snacks. By using them just at your meals, you'd be opening up some problems when it comes time to snack between meals. So it's vital to use them as snacks.

Also, it's important to have them with meals because the live enzymes bananas contain help you to digest your foods better. Good digestive health is critically important for long term weight loss progress.

When was the last time you jumped rope? For most people the answer would be
back in Elementary School or possibly Junior High. It's actually too bad,
because it is a very efficient form of exercise. Most people could easily walk
for 15 minutes, but I would bet less than 1 percent of adults could jump rope
for 15 minutes straight. Very few people, besides boxers, have ever seriously
used the jump rope to achieve top condition.

What Muscle Groups are Worked in a Jump Rope
Workout?

Jumping rope will seriously work every muscle in the body. I'm convinced
that it will expose your weak links. After your first jump rope workout,
you will be sore in many different parts of your body. Honestly, I think my
entire body was sore after my first jump rope workout. I was especially sore in
my calf muscles as well as my abs. As a side note I will say that jumping
rope will help you in your quest to get super-ripped abs. Your core really gets
worked hard since you have to use your abs to stabilize your entire body to help
you propel your body through the air.

How Jumping Rope Helps Your Body Release Fat Burning
Hormones.

HGH is a natural hormone that your body releases to burn body fat. You have
probably seen many ads for pills that will help increase your natural levels of
HGH. This was really popular about 5 years ago, but you don't hear too much
about HGH anymore. A high level of HGH in your body is the quickest route to
burning body fat! Unfortunately, low intensity cardio won't help your body
release HGH.
The best way to increase HGH is performing high intensity
cardio for 30-60 seconds or so, followed by a minute or two of walking or low
intensity cardio. This is called High Intensity Interval Training.

What Type of Jump Rope To Purchase?

I recommend getting a "speed rope"...these run around $15 at most
sporting good stores. They are plastic ropes without the beads. You also don't
want to buy the weighted ropes. Get a jump rope that is adjustable. You are
going to want to adjust the rope to an optimum level to jump quickly without
hitting your head. If it is too long, you won't be able to jump at a fast rate.

How To Adjust Your Jump Rope to the Correct Height:

  • Set your jump rope on the ground
  • Stand on the midpoint of the rope (an equal distance between the handles)
  • Grab the handles and pull them up to your chest while standing on the rope
  • If the top of the handles reach above your collar bone the rope is too long
  • If the top of the handles reach your upper abs or lower, the rope is too short
  • I like to adjust the rope so the handles hit about 6 inches below my collar bone
  • If in doubt, go a bit too long and shorten the rope a bit as you get more experienced

Your First Two Weeks of the Program, Learn the Skill of Jumping
Rope

Most beginners "double bounce" in between rotations. This actually
allows them to rest their core a bit as well as their calf muscles in
between rotations and means that they have a low level of core fitness. You will
want to jump cleanly in between each rotation and keep the abs and core tight.

Your arms should barely move when you jump rope. The rotation of the rope
should come from wrist movement
. If you want to increase the speed of the
rotations, simply increase the tightness of the circles that your wrist is
making (this will make more sense when you start jumping rope). The goal of your
first two weeks of jumping rope is to eventually work up to a point where you
can jump rope for 5 minutes solid without having to stop and start again. This
means that if you have to stop because the rope hits your feet, you have to
start again from zero. You also want to be able to jump rope alternating feet,
so it looks like you are running while jumping rope.

A Great 15 Minute Jump Rope Workout that You Can Customize to Your
Liking

  • Stand in front of a clock or timer of some sort
  • Jump Rope for 3 minutes to warm up
  • Rest for 30 seconds
  • Jump rope as quickly as possible for 60 seconds
  • Rest for 30 seconds
  • Jump Rope as quickly as possible for 60 seconds
  • Rest for 30 seconds
  • Repeat this alternating pattern for 15-20 minutes

Note: For the 60 second sprint, you can do it in running fashion, you can
learn how to rotate the rope twice for every one jump, etc. As you get more
advanced, you will be able to make the 60 second sprint extremely intense.
Also, if you want to take advantage of the fast heart rate and burn even more
body fat, hit a treadmill or exercise bike for 20-30 minutes after your jump
rope workout
. Oh yeah...you might need a towel...you should be sweating like
crazy!
